Originaire du Mississipi, Bass Drum Of Death is primarily the project of John Barrett who composes, plays all the instruments, and records alone in his basement. In 2008, he was joined by drummer Colin Sneed. After two very promising EPs, "Stain Stick Skin" and "High School Roaches", "Bass Drum of Death" finally released a first real album in 2011, titled "GB City" and signed to the Fat Possum records label. This album was very well received by critics who appreciate the band's multiple influences. "GB City" traces the history of rock, from the 50s rock'n'roll to the angry punk of the Ramones. The songs are short, aggressive, and impactful, an effective style that greatly contributes to their international success. From the Sonics to Ty Segall, the history of rock is traversed by these artists whose work is based on urgency, immediacy, and rage. The American trio Bass Drum Of Death fits well into this tradition with its incisive garage rock and its noisy songs that rarely last more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
