Description

Bärlin blurs gender boundaries. Borrowing deep, enveloping soundscapes from cold wave and post-rock, the bass-clarinet/vocals-drums trio embodies an energy that is sometimes punk, sometimes flamboyant, ready to sweep everything in its path. While the trio's approach may recall that of Tuxedomoon, Morphine, Einstürzende Neubauten, or Portishead, it pursues a singular and timeless quest for which it would be difficult to find an equivalent, especially on French soil. With 'State of Fear', Bärlin delivers its most powerful album to date, imbued with a fury close to that which inhabits the three musicians on stage. Profound and intimate, Bärlin's music nonetheless cultivates a more ambivalent register with this album, one of derision and irony. Through these nine new tracks, Bärlin continues to carve out the adventurous path that makes this trio a unique experience in contemporary music.
