At the end of the previous decade, The Barbaras, a handful (if you could really hold them) of wild twenty-somethings, were playing in clubs in Memphis. They tried their best but never actually recorded an album. Jay Reatard recorded them between tours, but after taking two members with him for several intensive months of touring, the band didn't survive long enough. Hayes and Pope ended up leaving Reatard for the band Wavves, and he then told them he had erased all the Barbaras' recordings. In 2011, the recordings were found on Reatard's digital recorder, and Alicia Trout helped the band finalize and mix the recording.
