Bandua II

Description

Second album by the Portuguese world music duo with electro accents, Bandua. Bandua II is released on CD and vinyl LP on Ajabu!. Bandua draws on the centuries-old musical traditions of the Portuguese region of Beira Baixa and reinterprets them in a style blending electronica, folk and worldbeat. The Luso-Brazilian musician, sound explorer and versatile producer Bernardo D'Addario, aka Tempura, and the Portuguese singer and multi-instrumentalist Edgar Valente have formed Bandua since 2018. The group’s name refers to a deity from Celtic-Lusitanian mythology. They are probably the only ones to revisit and extend the traditional music of Beira Baixa through contemporary production methods. Pagan and Moorish traditions have deeply shaped this region of central Portugal, rooted in an ancestral culture and carrying a harsh popular musical history strongly anchored in local realities. The two artists have their roots there and consider their music a declaration of love to their homeland, whose magic they wish to share with today’s world. The eight tracks on this album, at once complex, spiritual, rhythmic and atmospheric, have a truly original and immediately recognizable quality.
