Shaking Moving Dancing People

Description

A key figure during the golden age of DFA Studios between 2003 and 2008, Eric Broucek worked behind the scenes, tirelessly shaping the sound aesthetic of an era now blurred in the mists of creative chaos. A shadowy engineer, he left his mark on all remixes, albums, and EPs of the time, working daily in the studio's over-equipped "dungeon" to record, mix — and keep his composure amidst the whimsical impulses of his colleagues. But amidst this frenzy, Broucek was already forging his own path. On his label Stickydisc Recordings, he discreetly released three limited-edition electronic gems: two under the name Babytalk, and one as Watussi with Morgan Wiley, another regular of the DFA clan. Refusing at the time to release his music on DFA, he asserted a radically singular sound—deconstructed, subtle, on the fringes of collective euphoria. Years later, his tracks resurface in DJ sets, still as unsettling, still as modern. This is where the idea for this compilation originated: a posthumous tribute to a timeless body of work, to a behind-the-scenes artisan who has never ceased to be loved.
