The psychedelic Gnawa trance of Bab'L Bluz!Swaken is the second album by the Moroccan quartet Bab L' Bluz. The album was recorded at Real World Studios and draws on the songwriting, arrangement, and production talents of founding members Yousra Mansour and Brice Bottin. "Swaken," which means "possession" in Darija, describes the spirits that haunt humans. Sometimes associated with a transcendent musical experience, it involves a deep connection with music, going beyond simple "trance" through highly agitated bodily movements. In Chaabi music, Swaken goes beyond our dimension, leading to Gnawa trance. Beyond mere possession, we wanted to use this term to emphasize the obsession with ideas, values, and principles, expressing a determination to fight injustices, even to challenge customs and traditions.
