Description

New album by composer and percussionist Asher Gamedze, Constitution. This expansive double album is Gamedze’s follow-up to 2023’s Turbulence and Pulse (IARC0057), and his first with The Black Lungs. The album - recorded in one day at Sound and Motion Studios in Cape Town - is an elaboration on the possibilities of autonomous constitution in and through poly-rhythmic and modal music. On Constitution, the power of questioning, the possibility of an improvised response, and the celebration of being together do not exist in the solo but in the group, the ensemble. Here, The Black Lungs collectively explores and deconstructs the conceptual, tonal and atonal possibilities of themes that belong to both old and new dreams - curious and immediate, melancholic and emerging.
