‘Open Vocal Phrases, Where Songs Come in And Out’ and ‘Sketches For World of Echo’ feature two intimate solo performances by American musician Arthur Russell, recorded at Phill Niblock's Experimental Intermedia Foundation in New York on June 25, 1984, and December 20, 1985. These two concerts laid the groundwork for the album ‘World Of Echo’ (1986), with Arthur Russell borrowing material from both performances, mixing and altering it during recording sessions at Battery Sound studio.
