Throughout its eight decades of history, Blue Note Records has been celebrated as THE label for the greatest voices in jazz. It continues this tradition with the release of the eponymous debut album by ARTEMIS, the supergroup composed of seven of the most acclaimed female musicians on the modern jazz scene.
It features pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes, tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana, clarinetist Anat Cohen, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, bassist Noriko Ueda, drummer Allison Miller, and vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, thus drawing on the powerful collective voice of a septet of visionary leaders and composers. This debut album is a superb collection of nine songs composed and/or arranged by each of the six instrumentalists in the band. ARTEMIS unfolds with a dynamic, surprisingly eclectic flow.
