Art Pepper, one of the most prolific and gifted alto saxophonists in jazz, brought his quartet: Milcho Leviev, piano; George Mraz, bass; and Al Foster, drums, to Fat Tuesday's, the number one jazz club in New York City in the early '80s, shortly before his untimely death of a brain hemorrhage in 1982. This recording is an excellent example of late-period Pepper, preserving an incredibly live atmosphere and with a sound balance reproducing all the four players to an acceptable standard.
