In the fall of 2018, after settling in Germany, Aron Ottignon met Senegalese musician and percussionist Bakane Seck, founder and leader of the Jeri Jeri Band, in his Berlin studio. From this first encounter emerged a special connection between their instruments and the beginning of a musical adventure that transcends borders, an instrumental conversation of profound simplicity nourished by the richness of jazz, electronic music, and Wolof tradition. Conceived by composer and producer Aron Ottignon and percussionist Sabar Bakane Seck, Aron & The Jeri Jeri Band (A&TJJB) was born at the crossroads connecting Berlin and Dakar, oscillating between the frenetic rhythm of mbalax, the power of afrobeat, the warmth of afro funk, and the effervescence of jazz. Born in New Zealand, the pianist released a series of critically acclaimed jazz albums in the 2000s. As a composer, Aron Ottignon has collaborated with Stromae, traveled the world with Woodkid, and worked with numerous artists including Electric Wire Hustle, Louane, Broken Back, Empire Of the Sun, and Myele Manzanza. Senegalese musician and griot Bakane Seck masters the Sabar - "percussion instrument" in Wolof - which has taken him around the world alongside icons of African music such as Youssou N'Dour and Baaba Maal.
