The cult band Armageddon is back for its 50th anniversary. Formed in 1974, Armageddon released its self-titled debut album, Armageddon, in 1975. Recorded in England, it was distributed in the United States by A&M Records. The original liner notes called it a "supergroup," as its members were drummer Bobby Caldwell (formerly of Captain Beyond), singer Keith Relf (former frontman of The Yardbirds and co-founder of Renaissance), guitarist Martin Pugh (from Steamhammer), and bassist Louis Cennamo (also formerly of Renaissance and Steamhammer). Armageddon caught the attention of Peter Frampton, who signed them to his label. However, the band's promising future was hampered by Relf's health issues. They played only two concerts, which prevented their self-titled album from achieving the expected success, despite positive reviews and some airplay on FM radio. The band broke up shortly after, and Relf passed away a few months later, leaving behind only their self-titled album as their sole discographic production. For its 50th anniversary, Armageddon has been remastered and reissued in a magnificent gatefold sleeve on 180g "atomic red" vinyl, limited to 500 copies worldwide.
