Description

After unveiling her KICK series to the digital world last December, Arca is finally giving her work a physical dimension, releasing all 5 albums on vinyl and CD. ‘KICK ii’ dives deep into the reggaeton and pop that permeated ‘KiCk i’. Arca is at her peak here, balancing structure and chaos to create her most accessible work to date, without sacrificing any of her musical experimentation. ‘KicK iii’ finds ecstasy in turbulence, as Arca revisits the mutant club music of her revolutionary early works. Arca proves herself to be a surrealist producer, distorting dance music structures to fit her singular vision. On ‘kick iiii’, the cycle resolves and a new species of xenopop emerges, sensual and serene. And with ‘kiCK iiiii’, ecstasy quickly transitions to serenity through compositions that sometimes evoke lullabies. Arca concludes her KICK series with a spoken word piece titled "Sanctuary" in which Ryuichi Sakamoto meditatively recites Arca's rallying cry: "mutant faith." The KICK cycle is an unprecedented work in the realm of pop, a universe in itself that Arca will continue to explore with her audience.
