The African origins of UFOs, an Afro-futurist concept that Anthony Joseph explored in his novel "The African Origins Of UFO’s," written nearly twenty years ago. After a period of reflection and artistic research with musician-producer Dave Okumu, this concept became the central theme of his new album. The novel served as the foundation for the initial tracks developed as a duo, and then became the launchpad for "Rowing Up River To Get Our Names Back Vol 1 & 2," an adventure so dense it had to be split into two parts. An ambitious and fascinating musical fresco: an exploration of the long and tumultuous history of Black music, this immense puzzle connected by a strong political consciousness. Funk, P-Funk, soul, dub, free-jazz, jazz, afrobeat, blues. Combining their two musical visions to form a single one, Anthony Joseph and Dave Okumu, illuminated by the beacons of their creativity, crafted an Afro-futurism with a fluid and boundless aesthetic.
