Born in England, Annie Ross (1930-2020) was one of the first practitioners of a vocal style known as vocalese, which involves setting original lyrics to an instrumental jazz solo. She is best remembered for her participation in a vocal trio with Dave Lambert and Jon Hendricks. Recorded in 1957-58, Annie Ross Sings a Song with Mulligan features Annie Ross accompanied by a wonderful quartet including jazz stars Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, and Chet Baker.
