Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished (2023 remaster)

Description

The Baltimore group reissues its cult debut album.
Animal Collective announces the reissue of its very first album Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished, which will be released on May 12 via Domino.
Originally released in August 2000, in the form of a very limited CD pressing, on its own label, Animal, under the name Avey Tare & Panda Bear, before the group officially named itself Animal Collective, Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished was described by Pitchfork as "a masterful piece of fairy tale electro-acoustic music; yet, its grating electronics and vitrified rhythms hint at something darker. Like a Snickers bar containing a razor blade." The reissue is fully remastered and includes new artwork by Abby and Dave Portner, as well as the EP, A Night at Mr. Raindrop's Holistic Supermarket, which brings together five unreleased tracks, including a cover of "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac, recorded at the same time and mixed by Deakin, of Animal Collective.
