Guitarist and exceptional Greek singer, Angélique Ionatos, with 40 years of career and the origin of twenty albums, her latest album released in 2015 is a significant addition. It summarizes, if that is possible, the poetic and political commitment of this extraordinary woman; it is a timely and completely timeless album. "Reste la lumière (2015)" closes her discography in the form of a cry of anger: Greece is then devastated by an economic crisis and humiliated by European austerity plans, while thousands of migrants are stranded on its islands, particularly in Lesbos, where Angélique Ionatos owned a house. "Poets are in exile. In our world subjected to a new barbarism, that of plutocracy, we must question them to regain memory and utopia at the same time. Notably, Gaspar Claus (cello) and César Stroscio (bandoneon) whose contributions enhance the evocative power of the record, but also Renaud Garcia Fons and Claude Tchamitchian. Katerina Fotinaki, with whom she has already collaborated several times (Anatoli, Comme un Jardin la Nuit...), will also be featured. Angélique Ionatos's voice embodies a desire for movement. It subtly reflects a political discourse driven by the vision of a Greece under pressure. Her commitment is one of openness, of accepting anxieties to better combat them, particularly through the transmission of her native culture. A dark but hopeful record transcended by the strength of her convictions.
