She is undoubtedly the phenomenon of the year with her first album “Brol,” a Belgian slang term that is especially close to her heart. “I simply wanted to put a Belgian word in my album, especially since it has always made me laugh. Brol means mess, disorder, but optimistic and light, it is not at all pejorative. This word reminds me of my childhood, my country because I am there less and less. I therefore find it very reassuring.” If the Internet produces Instagram artists by the dozen, Angèle stands out from the crowd. At 23, she is coming to shake up the codes of the “game” and gently pokes fun at “fame” and its vicissitudes. A pure product of her time, she transcends musical, stylistic, social, and ethnic divides in the image of Brussels, the capital of European urban pop, more uninhibited than Paname; a new urban pop that no longer needs to claim an identity, a class, a neighborhood, or colors. Angèle is a bedroom producer with a big “Do It Yourself” emblazoned on her oversized sweatshirt. She writes her lyrics, composes her own sounds, and offers a graphic aesthetic that reflects her, direct and striking, by bringing in the very young Charlotte Abramow to handle her image. Coming from a family of artists and after studying jazz academically, Angèle began with covers of pop classics on her Instagram and built a universe for herself with phenomenal success. Angèle perfectly embodies her generation, magmatic and syncretic, where the boundaries between musical genres are now only a distant memory.
