The great achievement of this fourth album by Ange is its ability to combine two major cultural currents of 1970s France: the enthusiasm for progressive rock and what has been called regionalism, born from May 68 and a distrust of the country's hyper-centralization. Here, however, there is no liberation movement in Haute-Saône like in Brittany, but a sincere interest in a "species" that was already on the verge of extinction: the peasant, who has never left his village but embodies a tradition and a way of life that is "authentic," resonating with certain aspirations of the "hippies." He is personified here in Emile Jacotey, the true blacksmith of the village of Saulnot, whose voice we hear several times and who serves as the guiding thread of the first side. Musically, Ange remains in the vein of previous records, but one can detect a greater sincerity here, as the band has never renounced its neo-rural origins.
