The Devil’s Door

Description

With The Devil's Door, And Also The Trees, a founding figure of post-punk, deliver an album that is both muted and intense, permeated by a dark psychedelia. Cinematic, poetic, and inhabited in turn, the record stands as the third part of a trilogy that began with The Bone Carver and Mother-of-Pearl Moon. It features the evocative lyrics of the band, orchestral guitars, and a writing style influenced by film music, painting, and folklore. New instruments enrich the whole, placing the album at the crossroads of a universe where John Barry would meet Béla Bartók. Formed in rural Worcestershire during the post-punk era, the band has always drawn inspiration from the beauty and shadows of the English countryside. Renowned for their enchanting concerts, AATT stands out with an electric guitar played like a mandolin, dark jazz rhythms, and fierce independence. Early on, they were supported by Robert Smith of The Cure, and the band has toured with them several times. Smith and Lol Tolhurst also participated in their early recordings. This relationship continued through the Meltdown Festival 2018 and the Nîmes festival, where AATT will be a special guest of The Cure. Founded by Simon Jones and his brother Justin, the band now has sixteen studio albums and over forty years of career.
