SKY BLUE LOVE (vinyl)

Description

English producer John Hollis (Totó la Momposina, Billy Cobham & Asere, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita etc) returns to his first love, reggae, where he began his career in the 80s, and delivers a modern dub album in collaboration with Rob Smith, aka RSD, legendary engineer of 'bass culture' and the AMJ Collective, a group of international musicians. SKY BLUE LOVE is an innovative and profound album with majestic effects, a true musical journey full of soul and fervor. It's a triangular story that translates Hollis's musical experiences, from West Africa to Colombia, passing through the Caribbean and Cuba, to return to England, specifically to Bristol where he reunited with the drum and bass duo, Andy Clarke and Mark Spence, of Jamaican origin, to provide the grooves and form the foundation. He then invited Latin and African artists to participate in the adventure: Tapha Gaye, Youssou N'Dour's current guitarist, Michel Padron, Cuban trumpeter, Seckou Keita on kora, Camilo Menjura, Colombian guitarist, and finally on vocals, Totó la Momposina's granddaughters, Maria del Mar and Oriana Melissa, as well as Mariama Kouyate. The reggae identity is unequivocal - deep sound system basslines, mixes from a dub master who creates a powerful sound, Latin percussion, melodious brass, guitars, and also an acoustic side with string instruments that bring a beautiful subtlety. A unique and daring work, an avant-garde production of quality.
