The band American Football made their mark as early as 1999 with a discreet yet pioneering self-titled debut album, blending emo and post-rock. They split shortly after its release, but the members reunited 15 years later, releasing LP2 in 2016, followed by LP3, a more mature and open record marked by a desire to evolve their sound.Recorded under the same conditions as LP2 but with a freer approach, LP3 moves away from the band's past. The cover, showing open landscapes rather than an iconic house, symbolizes this break. The band ironically describes their style as "post-house," nodding to the influence of shoegaze and ambient house, perceptible notably in the collaboration with Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), as well as contributions from Hayley Williams (Paramore) and Elizabeth Powell (Land of Talk), for whom Mike Kinsella wrote lyrics in French.Contemplative and charged with emotion, LP3 stands as a rich and introspective work, confirming that a reunion can strengthen a legacy rather than dilute it, much like Slowdive or My Bloody Valentine.
