Drive‐By Truckers - American Band
Drive‐By Truckers

American Band

Description

The quintet is back with its most politically charged album yet! If the quintet from Athens, Georgia has always considered itself, since its formation in 1996 and through lineup changes, as a political band, their latest release - the group’s 11th album - American Band is certainly the most committed. The band’s two main songwriters, singer-guitarists Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood, joined by Matt Parson (bass), Jay Gonzalez (keyboards, multi-instrumentalist) and Brad Morgan (drums), deliver their country-inflected Southern rock with even greater conviction! Recorded with David Barbe (Deerhunter, Greg Allman), the album also draws its power from the unity of this band - the longest-running DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS lineup without a change - which is making its third album in this configuration! Inspired among other things by the spirit of Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, Cooley and Hood tackle hot-button issues in American Band such as racism, income inequality, the NRA and Islamophobia, unfolding in their own style protest songs made for stadiums!
