Still There Is The Sea

Description

Gondwana Records is delighted to announce Still, There is the Sea, the debut album from Canadian composer and singer Ambre Ciel. Originally from Montreal, Ambre is a composer, violinist, pianist, and singer. Her dreamy pop music is inspired by artists such as Agnes Obel, Patrick Watson, Sufjan Stevens, Thom Yorke, as well as contemporary composers like Debussy, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and Jónsi & Alex Somers. Ambre sings in French and English. Coming from an artistic family, she began playing the violin at age six before exploring pedal effects and loops. At university, she devoted herself to composition and recording, rediscovering the piano as a source of new harmonic possibilities. Still, There is the Sea marks a beginning for her: an attempt to give shape to an inner world. It is a refined pop album, making room for strings, acoustic instruments, and her captivating voice. The album was co-produced with Pietro Amato (The Bell Orchestre, Arcade Fire), with orchestral arrangements co-written with Owen Pallett, performed by the FAMES Skopje Studio Orchestra. Sensitive musicians such as Stefan Schneider, Guillaume Bourque, and a string trio complete this dreamlike, fragile, mysterious, yet deeply honest project.
