Familly Affair - Vinyl

Description

Senegalese composer, bassist and singer Alune Wade has embarked on a quest that is as personal as it is universal. He has retraced the routes of the slave trade, from Lagos to New Orleans via Accra, Gorée and the Caribbean, to weave together the threads of the music that are his own: afrobeat, highlife, blues, jazz, funk… After the success of New African Orleans, accompanied by the documentary Tukki - Des racines au bayou in 2025, he releases a new album that is just as powerful. Family Affair, whose title embraces the family gathered around this ambitious project, combines ethnomusicology, Afro-Atlantic memory and Afro-diasporic creativity. A former collaborator of Joe Zawinul and Marcus Miller in particular, Alune Wade here embraces the influence of Miles Davis and Peter Gabriel’s So, displays his talent as a storyteller on lyrics in Wolof, with guests including singers Mamani Keita and Hindi Zahra, as well as Cuban pianist Harold López Nussa. An album of creolity, Family Affair illustrates this foundational history of the Tout-Monde dear to Édouard Glissant. With its transatlantic connections, Alune Wade extends its writing.
