Recorded in Bamako with his traditional ngoni group specially assembled for the occasion, “Savane” is Ali’s testament, a powerful reaffirmation of his umbilical link with his Malian musical roots; an album that is at once the most traditional and arguably the most blues-infused of Ali’s recordings, the making of which occupied him right up until his final weeks and which he declared himself satisfied with shortly before his death in March 2006. The album is available for the first time on vinyl.
