Jean Wiener and Clément Doucet, the hosts of this cabaret, themselves pianists, played Chopin or Wagner arranged in a jazzy way, but also Cole Porter and Gershwin! Paris having become the city of jazz, artists from all walks of life came after their shows at Le Boeuf sur le Toit to play together until very late at night. Hence the expression "faire un boeuf"! Alexandre Tharaud has become passionate about this era: "This record is a tribute to this extraordinary place. I truly believe that French music would not have been the same without what happened at Le Boeuf sur le Toit. In my program, there are pieces by Jean Wiener, Clément Doucet, Darius Milhaud, but also Gershwin, Kern, and then duets! Because every night, at Le Boeuf sur le Toit, we took whoever was there, and we made music together, we sang, mainly jazz.
