« A composer whose writing is both precise and prolific, saxophonist Alban Darche returns to us after Orphi-Cube with a very fine project centered on strings. This is not his first attempt, since Alban released an album of this kind nearly 10 years ago, with a Hungarian quartet. It is therefore drawing on this experience that he invites a few outstanding French players to revisit the musical idea around a renewed repertoire. The successful alchemy between the quartet’s playing and that of the three jazz affiliates serves a universe with a playful spirit that is always alert. There we find a form of groove crossed by the spirit of Bartók, that interest the artist nurtures for dance music (tango, fox-trot) revisited through his mastery of arrangement. The sound, phrasing, and intent of the partners work to highlight this sui generis writing, which returns the favor. In short, the chamber is beautifully decorated! » Cyrille Gohaud, Pannonica
