Scottish musician Alasdair Roberts is back with his sparkling folk for a ninth solo album. While up until 2007 he was covering and renovating traditional Scottish repertoire, he eventually abandoned pure Celtic musical folklore to explore the art of composition. With *Pangs*, he continues this creative and innovative approach and moves away from the acoustic austerity of his previous album released in 2015. Here he gives pride of place to the electric guitar and surrounds himself with a band. *Pangs* reflects the modernity of its composer and his desire to move away from "classic" folk towards more experimental pieces. The trio made up of Roberts, Alex Nielson, and Stevie Jones also welcomed guests such as Debbie Armour, Tom Crossley, Rafe Fitzpatrick, and Jessica Kerr. An album of unique power and beauty blending the roots of folk with a brilliantly contemporary approach. For fans of: Bonnie Prince Billy, Meg Baird, King Creosote, Ryley Walker, etc.
