Ten years after the success of You & I, Londoner ALA.NI returns with a new album recorded between Montreuil and New York: "Sunshine Music." This eleven-track record blends vintage elegance with Caribbean rhythms (calypso, ragga, bossa, rocksteady), inspired by a two-year interlude spent in Jamaica, Grenada, and Barbados. With her crystalline voice, reminiscent of Sade or Minnie Riperton, ALA.NI explores love ("Something You Said," "I Don't Want to Hate You") and nature ("Blue Mountain," "Seaweed"), painting a lush world filled with birdsong, moonlight, and warm waters. "Tief," built around a sample from calypso king Mighty Sparrow, subtly denounces the traces of imperialism, echoing her Caribbean roots and her first experience of life in a predominantly Black society.
