Acca is Ala.ni’s second album, due out on August 30. Acca stands for “a cappella.” Because yes, this second album was conceived entirely and (largely) made a cappella. And the inspiration: friends, love stories, memories, bursts of laughter, travels, a zest for life and a taste for risk. The first time we heard Ala.ni, more than four years ago, it was on the secretive video for the song Suddenly. She looked like a black-and-white singer, a backlit silhouette, whose voice rose in tender swirls. The Londoner (of Caribbean origin) Ala.ni was a dream come true. Since then, she has released EPs and the album You & I, out in early 2016, played all kinds of concerts in varied places and settings (from an apartment to the Château de Fontainebleau), shown that she dances as well as she sings, and that she knows how to make us laugh as much as move us. In the end, with her music somewhere between parlor folk and miniature musical, Ala.ni was an artist in bright colors, the singer who danced on the rainbow.
