Alan Sparhawk has always been a prolific and multifaceted musician. While he is obviously best known for his thirty years at the helm of the legendary band Low, a glance at the many side projects of Alan Sparhawk during this same period shows that he has experimented with all sorts of things, from punk to funk, as well as production work and improvisation. The band has always been a collaboration - a conversation, a romance - between Alan and his wife, Mimi Parker, who was the co-founder of the band, the drummer, the lead singer, and his irreplaceable heart. Mimi passed away in 2022 after a long battle with cancer, and there is no doubt that White Roses, My God is an album driven by grief. However, it would be reductive, even foolish, to consider grief as the sole source or ultimate limit of this tense, brilliant, provocative, and thrilling album, whose bold experimentation is fueled by deep lyrics and propulsive rhythms. This debut solo album for Sub Pop is both a bold new adventure, infused with electro-pop, and an extension of the innovation and experimentation that has guided his work as a member of Low.
