At the end of 1974, Bob Cummins, owner of the India Navigation label, set up microphones in the front of a building in New York to document two short sets by a band with no alternative takes or additional tracks. These recordings became the first album of saxophonist Alan Braufman, capturing a unique and very vibrant historical slice of New York's creative underground improvised jazz. Originally released in 1975, the free jazz album Valley of Search features Cooper-Moore (piano, dulcimer, recitation), Cecil McBee (double bass), David Lee (drums), and Ralph Williams (percussion).
