GREATEST HEADS/LIMITED

Description

Published by Hegoa Records and Night School Records. Greatest Heads is the fourth album by the radical Basque-Berlin group Al Karpenter. Deconstructing structured rock, Al Karpenter here reinvents the band to explore the intersection between free music, afro-beat, avant-garde, and gonzo rock. If Theodor Adorno wrote "To write poetry after Auschwitz is barbaric" in 1949, Al Karpenter attempts to answer the difficult current question: what kind of music can one make in the face of genocide? The answer of Álvaro Matilla, Marta Sainz, Enrique Zaccagnini, and Mattin to the planetary drift in a whirlwind of hate is to create ecstatic music, protest music, overflowing with multiple musical languages and glossaries, rich in intertwined stories and thrilling tensions. Greatest Heads offers a plurality of musics both opposed and intertwined: Al Karpenter plays rock instruments dismantled in the studio in post-production. Pieces of distorted rhythms are crushed and dissipated, segments of freedom oppressed by invasive sound waves from all sides. The interaction between the principal instrumentalists and the famous and legendary sound artist Mattin creates something akin to Cro-Magnon, in search of extra-sensory freedom.
