The first collaboration of the renowned Japanese and Australian composers, Akira Kosemura and Lawrence English. Selene is a record that explores this persistent desire for what lies beyond, outside the things and ways we know. It is a work that seeks new perspectives torn from familiar views, and meditates on this sense of grounding and perspective. The piece is also a speculative hymn to visions of celestial realms that stretch ever further. These visions, which were once only what we could perceive with the naked eye, are now much more than that. This recording is part of a lineage that reaches back in time while extending forward. It is just one story among many, told through places, cultures, and generations. It exists in the in-between of before and after, and in that moment, it invites us to position ourselves and lean into it.
