Citizen Of Glass

Description

After Philharmonics and Aventine, two albums certified Platinum in France and each selling more than one million copies, the magnetic Danish artist AGNES OBEL returns with a new album, “Citizen Of Glass”. It was during her last tour that the artist came up with this title for an album deliberately centered on glass. Both solid and fragile, glass figuratively represents the way each person constantly reveals themselves — on social media, among their circle of friends, etc. For this album, recorded, produced and mixed by herself in Berlin, AGNES OBEL therefore explores the concept of transparency while offering a new approach to her music: her singing is manipulated and fragmented to create new versions of her own voice. Also, various original instruments are added to AGNES OBEL’s dreamlike sonic universe, such as the trautonium, a monophonic electronic musical instrument dating from the last century. In ten tracks, AGNES OBEL succeeds in the challenge of exploring her favorite theme in depth, both through her melodies and through her lyrics. Special mention for ‘Familiar’, a hypnotic track where the singer performs a duet with her echo.
