JACK VEGAS

Description

Finally! The biggest electro/post-punk band from Sweden is back with new material. Jack Vegas is the sixth studio album from the Swedish group Agent Side Grinder. It marks the band's first exploration of American culture, heavily inspired by the beatnik works of Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs, as well as proto-punk and avant-garde movements—while maintaining a contemporary narrative perspective. The American dream becomes a symbol of escape from a Europe ravaged by pandemics, war, and financial instability. The lyrical themes revolve around boredom, resilience, government and corporate intrusion, and mental health—with an occasional glimmer of light. It's a road movie driven by a drum machine, tracing its path through the desperate heart of rural Sweden. The album was produced by former ASG member Henrik Sunbring and recorded in Stockholm in 2022. On the Empire side, Agent Side Grinder has always existed in a sort of twilight zone. Deeply rooted in old electronic and industrial music as well as proto- and post-punk, their sound is fueled by iterative and suggestive rhythms and sudden bursts of untamed ferocity, built equally on dissonant samples and elegant melodies. The name Jack Vegas is derived from a Swedish chain of low-stakes slot machines.
