The guitarist of Black Pumas returns with a solo album in the form of a love letter to Latin American ballads.
The new album by Adrian Quesada is a celebration of super funky, slightly crazy, and deeply soulful sounds that transcended cultural boundaries in Latin America in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Featuring the voices of Puerto Rican icon, GRAMMY winner, and former member of Calle 13, iLe, visionary Colombian-American Gabriel Garzón-Montano, Mexican R&B star Girl Ultra, as well as Angelica Garcia, Gaby Moreno, contributions from living legends such as Marc Ribot, and Beastie Boys musician Money Mark, Boleros Psicodélicos mainly consists of original compositions by Adrian Quesada, as well as covers of classic Latin American ballads. The 12 tracks were produced, designed, mixed, and largely performed by Adrian Quesada, honoring and extending the influence of a personal obsession he has cultivated over the past 20 years. In 2020, during the lockdown, he delved deeper into YouTube archives than ever before, and his knowledge expanded from groups like Los Pasteles Verdes and Los Ángeles Negros to artists like Sandro and José José, while his sonic palette broadened from guitar and organ to harpsichords and orchestral arrangements that define much of the romanticism of Latin ballads.
