In Search Of Ancient Gods

Description

Absolute Elsewhere was born from the imagination of British musician, songwriter, and producer Paul Fishman. Despite having only one album to their credit, this synthesized progressive/symphonic rock band deserves attention. "In Search Of Ancient Gods" is inspired by the works of the controversial Swiss author Erich von Däniken, in which he puts forward conspiracy theories regarding the visit of ancient astronauts to Earth and their influence on early human civilizations. Through the publisher of Erich and a friend of his father, Paul Fishman was put in touch by phone with Robert Fripp, the brain behind King Crimson, to discuss a musical interpretation of von Däniken's work in the style of "The War of the Worlds." Unfortunately, the collaboration did not come to fruition, but Fripp suggested that King Crimson's drummer, Bill Bruford, might be interested. He was. This led to a journey through recording techniques and cutting-edge instruments, various European recording studios, and of course, space and time. The ambitious ephemeral experience that was Absolute Elsewhere proved to be influential. Blood Incantation titled their 2024 cult album, a blend of death metal and krautrock, Absolute Elsewhere, in homage to the band. Several tracks from this album have been sampled by the biggest names in modern hip-hop, such as J Dilla, Future, and Benny the Butcher. Today, for its 50th anniversary, this classic has been fully remastered and remixed. "Prog as it should be," as Paul Fishman himself says. In Search Of Ancient Gods is available in a limited edition of 500 numbered copies to celebrate the 50th anniversary. The album includes a 16-page booklet with an essay by Erich von Däniken and updated sleeve notes by singer Paul Fishman.
