A Hawk and A Hacksaw is the duo formed by Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost, known for playing music that is both traditional and original, infused with influences from Eastern European folklore. Here is their 6th album: You Have Already Gone to the Other World: Music Inspired by Paradjanov's Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. It features 16 tracks, including 7 original compositions and 9 reimagined traditional songs from Ukraine, Hungary, and Romania. The entire work is inspired by the 1964 film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" by Russian director Sergei Parajanov. Barnes (from Neutral Milk Hotel) and Trost (who also contributed to Josephine Foster's latest album) composed these pieces with the film's imagery as a guide, performing them on tour in theaters and cinemas. The album is produced by John Dieterich of Deerhoof (who also plays guitar on 2 tracks), who helps them achieve richer music and a more dynamic sound.
