This is the trio's first studio recording since the albums Circular Temple (1992) and Prism (1995). In the 90s, the three musicians were immersed in the free-jazz and avant-rock melting pot of the Lower East Side, soon to form the matrix of DAVID S. WARE's quartet. The title Village Mothership therefore refers to a place and a beneficial period for jazz inspiration and expression in New York, a period during which, according to WHIT DICKEY, a mystical current circulated. It was re-invoked during this recent reformation of the trio.
