From the small school in Ménaka, the town in Mali where she was born, LEILA GOBI amazed those around her with an extraordinary voice. Very quickly, her family discouraged her from pursuing a career, worried about the geographical distance separating them from Bamako. But after being the backing singer for several orchestras, LEILA founded her own group in 2010, on the verge of becoming a star across sub-Saharan Africa, touring in Niger, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Guinea and Senegal. It was in the United States during the "Festival au Desert - Caravan for Peace" tour in September 2013 that the Clermont label granted her the favor of a first international release. Two of the songs presented here were recorded in New York, the other six in Bamako.
