Description

Even in light of the current "Black Lives Matter" manifesto in the United States, OCTAVIA E. BUTLER's literary work is increasingly prophetic. Composers NICOLE MITCHELL and LISA E. HARRIS respond in their own way to the failure and disintegration of American society so acutely traced in several of her science fiction novels (Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents in particular). For the Chicago flutist, after Xenogenesis Suite (Firehouse 12) and Intergalactic Beings (FPE 002), this is the third illustration of the novelist's works. EarthSeed was commissioned by the Art Institute of Chicago and premiered on June 22, 2017.
