In contrast to ERKIN KORAY's dissident rock, DERDIYOKLAR IKILISI emerges, blending centuries-old Anatolian folklore with...Saturday Night Fever! It was in West Germany, starting in 1979, that the Turkish duo made their debut, performing at weddings and religious festivals for the immigrant community. Disco-Folk (not to be confused with Disko Folk, their now out-of-print second album) was released in 1984. The songs resonate equally with the body, heart, and mind, on par with the most avant-garde international psychedelic productions of their time. The drums puncture the soundscape with a moucharabieh of impacts, while the arabesques of the three-necked electric saz trace wonderful swirls like the sunset clouds over the Bosphorus. Recommended!
