Franz Ferdinand emerged from the Glasgow music scene in 2001, quickly gaining recognition for their energetic sound combining indie rock and dance-punk. The band consists of Alexander Kapranos (vocals, guitar), Nicholas McCarthy (guitar, keyboards), Robert Hardy (bass), Paul Thompson (drums), and Andrew Knowles (guitar, percussion). Their early rehearsals took place in a repurposed warehouse in the Gorbals district affectionately called 'the Château'.
