The highly prolific MATTHEW HOUCK, performing under the name PHOSPHORESCENT, returns with the excellent Muchacho, nearly three years after the album Here’s to Taking it Easy that established him. A breakup, a spur-of-the-moment departure to Mexico, a guitar on the beach in Tulum, and Muchacho was born. It brings back the sober melancholy and minimalist sensuality of Pride, with a hint of Here’s To Taking It Easy, before ultimately plunging into more adventurous waters, through electronic textures and rhythms. His unique voice is carried by elegant arrangements that restore to his songs the grandeur they deserve. With disarming ease, he weaves sumptuous melodies, sometimes languid, sometimes lively, with the common thread that they are moving, instantly and lastingly.
