Who can say that rock is a matter of greenhorns when the undisputed king of the genre is none other than Chuck Berry? Charles Edward Anderson Berry leaves a colossal legacy. Dozens of standards, first, (“Maybellene,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Johnny B. Goode,” “Sweet Little Sixteen,” “Carol”... a straw!) covered by almost every band on earth? A new way of playing guitar, then, making Gibsons sound with sharp riffs and convulsive solos, inventing a new vocabulary (which Keith Richards will quickly make his own!). A strong image, finally, that famous legendary duck walk, inimitable! But his immense success with a whole youth (both white and black) will not please everyone, and some will send him to spend two years in the shadow of a penitentiary, during the sixties, for an obscure case of statutory rape.
