The Portland band’s third album is shaping up to be one of the great indie records of the year. With this new album, UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA returns with a completely different understanding of their music. While on II, Ruban Nielson spoke to us about the pain of loneliness, with Multi-Love, the band’s leader wanted to bear witness to the complications of relationships and of living with several people. On the instrumental side, the synthesizers add a new dimension to their already kaleidoscopic approach. Their innovative psych spirit, not ignoring the last forty years, here forms a graceful and coherent whole that reflects their abundant creativity. The result gives us a universe of cosmic escapes and disco rhythms develops this innovative idea while Nielson’s vocals reach new heights. “Bringing old synthesizers back to life and creating sounds that don’t resemble any others, I think that’s more unsettling.” The constant exploration the band maintains gives the music they create an indefinable impact. Multi-Love is yet another proof of this. “Multi-Love, one of the greatest tracks of the year” - TSUGI Pitchfork “Multi-Love” Best New Track
