Avec Studio One Funk, Soul Jazz Records highlights a lesser-known but essential aspect of the Studio One catalog: the profound influence of American soul and funk on Jamaican reggae. Drawn from the legendary archives of Brentford Road, this compilation brings together rare, unreleased tracks and irresistible grooves. It features major artists like Cedric Im Brooks, Jackie Mittoo, Alton Ellis, and Leroy Sibbles, alongside talents like Pablove Black, Vin Gordon, and Delroy Wilson. Between reimagined covers and original compositions, the album navigates through roots reggae, raw funk, and instrumental soul, driven by the studio's iconic musicians. References to Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, and James Brown testify to this transatlantic dialogue, where Kingston appropriates and reinvents the codes of American groove with unique creativity. Available in limited edition transparent double vinyl.
