Soul Jazz Records is releasing a new 2026 edition of its cult compilation New York Noise: Dance Music From The New York Underground 1978-82, fully remastered. This reissue brings together iconic tracks from post-punk, punk-funk, synth wave and the New York no wave scene with Arthur Russell / Dinosaur L, James White and the Contortions, Theoretical Girls, Mars, Konk, Material, Bush Tetras and Lizzy Mercier Descloux. The compilation also includes rarer tracks by Alan Vega, Chain Gang and Implog. New York Noise captures the moment when punk, experimental music and early forms of underground dance music intersected in late 1970s and early 1980s New York. A pivotal period driven by artists like Glenn Branca, Arthur Russell and Bill Laswell, who helped redefine the boundaries between electronic music, art-rock and club culture.
